Orbis - a truly circular foam for comfort:

Vita is adding a new revolutionary foam into a collection of sustainable PU foams, Orbis. This new flexible PU foam solution is made from RENUVA™ polyols sourced from recycled post-consumer foam mattresses. Vita has partnered with Dow’s Renuva programme to be the first manufacturer to make new PU foam products from their repolyol. Orbis foam is Europe’s first flexible polyurethane (PU) foam made with raw materials sourced from recycled post-consumer foam mattresses.

The main driver behind the development of Orbis, and other sustainable foam produced by The Vita Group, is to create a circular economy for PU foam products so post-consumer products don’t end up in landfills or incineration.

Vita has a long heritage of exploring sustainable options and, in 2000, became the first in Europe to manufacture flexible foams using sustainably sourced polyols.

Collaboration with Dow:

Dow

Partnered with Dow chemicals, The Vita Group has added a new revolutionary foam into a collection of sustainable PU foams, Orbis.

Vita’s flexible PU foam solution, Orbis, is Europe’s first flexible polyurethane (PU) foam made from RENUVA™ polyols which are sourced from recycled post-consumer foam mattresses. Dow partnered with Eco-Mobilier to supply post-consumer PU mattress foam for chemical recycling to the first industrial-scale production plant operated by Orrion Chemicals in France. The Vita Group will start using RENUVA™ Polyols at its French production site of ICOA in Crancey, France.

RENUVA™ is a trademark of The Dow Chemical Company (“Dow”) or an affiliated company of Dow

RENUVA™ Mattress Recycling - A ZERO Waste Recycling Program:

The RENUVA™ Mattress Recycling Program aims to recycle up to 200,000 post-consumer mattresses a year in France and help address the problem of waste landfilling and incineration.  Dpartnered with Eco-Mobilier, supply post-consumer PU mattress foam for chemical recycling to the first industrial-scale production plant operated by Orrion Chemicals in France. The recycled PU Foam mattresses are processed using H&S technology which converts the foam back into a base raw material that Vita can use to produce brand-new foam for many applications, including mattresses, pillows, furniture and seating. The foams produced from this ‘re-polyol’ will have similar properties to products based on ‘virgin’ raw materials and can be used in all the same applications.

The development of Orbis stems from The Vita Group’s commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its products while ensuring its customers receive high-quality materials. A central aspect of this is driving circularity by reducing the amount of waste created during the production process, transitioning to more sustainable raw materials, increasing recycling, and decreasing fossil fuels.
