Medical Foam Applications

Bandages

Due to their elastic and air permeable properties, polyurethane foams find very wide usage within diverse compression bandage solutions. The rapidly falling pressure tension of polyurethane foams allows a nearly consistent distribution of the contact pressure and thus avoidance of dreaded pressure peaks.

Reticulated Foam

  • Reticulated foam is used as a wound filling material for problematic wounds in negative pressure wound therapy due to its soft elastic properties with a defined and extremely open cell structure.
  • The use of a filter foam creates a moist environment allowing exudate to drain away, allowing contraction of the wound edges.
  • Reticulated polyether and polyester grades we are offering a variety of densities, colours and pore sizes from PPI 20 to PPI 45.

Specialised Foams

  • The Vita Group manufactures a range of polyether and polyester foams which are suitable for bandages, body supports, medical accessories and more.
  • These foams provide softness and elasticity to the user amongst other benefits.

Wound Dressing

Foam dressings with the use of semi-permeable polyurethane foams, help to maintain a moist wound environment which accelerates the healing process by protecting the injury or wound from bacteria. Foam cushioning protects the wound and peri-wound area from additional trauma and provides thermal insulation.

Wound Management

Vita’s medical polyurethane foams are biologically non irritant, they exert a strong granulation stimulus and serve as a matrix for new tissue formation in the granulation phase. Our foam allows a free exchange of gas and water vapour and thus provides an ideally moist climate on the wound surface. The wound is well cushioned by the dressing and is protected against external cold stimuli and mechanical influences. Some foam dressings include a bacterial barrier made from a transparent film or are impregnated with an antimicrobial agent.

Reticulated Foam

  • MetzoGral EN offers bespoke and comfortable ready-to-install armrest applications without the need for additional use of fabric.
  • MetzoGral EN is an injected moulded foam grade which is compliant with EN45545-2.
  • Can be used for seat pan in trams or metros.
  • Vita fulfils almost every design including the integration of metal or wooden inserts, as well as painted versions.

HME Filters

HME Filters are used widely across many ventilator types including neonatal sizes. With precise specifications, HME filters are designed to replicate the functions of the body’s upper airway by conserving expired heat and moisture and returning these to the patient during inhalation.

Impregnated Foams

  • Within the Vita Group we have the capability of Impregnation which are highly tuned formulations to impart specific characteristics.
  • The end product is used widely across many ventilator types even down to tiny neo-natal sizes. The impregnation with the CaCl2 makes the foam hygroscopic, the moisture exchange filter component passively humidifies the inspired air by returning a percentage of the patients expired moisture to his/her airways.
  • The filters used can achieve moisture output in the region of (30mg. L-1).

Pharmaceutical Packaging

Vita converts die cut inserts, designed to hold vials and syringes for clinical trials. High density foams are strong enough to hold and secure the vials in place during transport.

Closed Cell PE

  • Closed cell polyethylene foams are an ideal solution for protective packaging due to it’s closed cell nature, which is resistant to liquids and can be wiped down, making it an excellent re-usable material. It is available in a wide range of colours, making it especially suitable in highend packaging applications, often within corporate projects. The benefits of closed cell Polyethylene in medical packaging is that it is wipeable, and will not absorb any moisture, water and liquids into the foam. These grades come in a wide range of densities which provide a flexible choice of materials based on the customers product they require to be packaged.

High-Loaded-Bearing Foams

  • High-load Bearing foams are high density polyurethane foams widely used for packaging applications providing protectivity and are suitable for a variety of converting method e.g. die-cutting, routing, CNC profiling and laminating. These foam types are available in various colours. Alongside our high density foams, Vita can supply low density versions which still have excellent high load bearing properties that are lightweight.
