An introduction from our CEO, Ian Robb

At The Vita Group, we invest in people; we seek to continuously hire the best candidates, and provide opportunities for growth from within our own workforce, whilst bringing new innovations and products to market. Empowering people within our workplace, within our supply chain, and within the communities we operate remains a core principle of our sustainability agenda.

Everyone at Vita is very proud of our sustainability achievements. Our focus is always on bringing new innovative products to our customers, combined with lower environmental footprint options, for new products we develop. We have worked extensively with experts in life cycle analysis (LCA), to build product-focused environmental data, using both primary and secondary source data: enabling Vita to be much more active in making sustainable product choices.

I know you will enjoy reading our sustainability report and, as always, I would like to thank every Vita employee for their support and contribution during 2022. Their commitment, ingenuity and passion make a difference and allow Vita to Enhance Everyday Life.

Our Approach to Sustainability

Right for our business, the environment, and the consumer.
Putting sustainability at the heart of all that we do is morally and ethically the right thing to do.

Vita puts words into action.
In 2022, we had our science-based targets validated by the SBTi – a significant industry first. Another example is our safety record. We have consistently improved our safety recordings, reducing our lost time accidents (LTA) across the group in 2022 by 64% since 2018.

Sustainability and Innovation go hand in hand at Vita.
We believe that it will be fundamentals in material science that will move us towards a low carbon economy and flexible PU foam will play a huge role as a key enabler. We invest heavily in innovation; 100% of our new product developments have a sustainable solution designed in and we continue to value our partnerships and collaboration throughout our value chain to ensure we can all move together.

Continuously seeking opportunities to work more efficiently.
We believe waste has value and we are committed to unlocking that value through strategic partnerships with our suppliers. Vita remains a net consumer of trim materials, re-using for
carpet underlay, hydroponic/green roof materials, and Revosport.

Commercialisation partner of choice.
Vita is defined by multi-layered sustainability breakthroughs: re-purposing by-products, seeking alternative raw materials, enabling customers to improve, and processing the waste of our customers’ customers. We are the clear ‘commercialisation partner of choice’ for advanced technologies and sustainable thinking.

The Life Cycle of Vita products

We understand that all products and services have an impact on the planet. At Vita, we are determined to fully evaluate that impact and explore ways to continue to reduce it. We believe that transparency on key measures such as GHGs, water use, and ozone depletion can be a driver for change and can inform our purchasing decisions in the future. Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) is a normalised and scientific method which validates how sustainable a product or process is.

Our Sustainability Principles

Sustainability is at the heart of everything that we do. Our purpose of creating comfort, delivering performance and enhancing everyday life is a call to action driven by everyone at Vita. This purpose is brought to life by four core principles that drive our sustainability agenda and give a clear structure that sharpens our focus for effective execution.

Optimising Resources

Climate change and resource stewardship are critical: by taking responsibility for the types and volumes of energy we consume, we seek to reduce our impact on both the climate and on the communities in which we operate.

Empowering people

The way we manage human resources practices makes Vita a safer, better and more enjoyable place to be, helping us retain the hard-earned trust of our stakeholders.

Acting Ethically

We hold ourselves to the highest standards of management, and ensure that we operate in an open, accountable and responsible way.

Research and Development

Innovation Team at The Vita Group

Flexible PU foam is the material of choice for so many applications and has the ability to become an enabler to drive towards net zero. It’s lightweight, cost-effective and scalable against competing technologies. Our expanded R&D capabilities have enabled us to tune the chemistry and cell structure for different applications, making it one of the most versatile advanced materials around.

It’s also long-lasting and more durable than many of the competing materials and best of all at the end of life it can now be recycled into materials to make new products. As an industry, this fact is something we must keep communicating by utilising science-based data.
