An introduction from Omar Hoek, CEO

As a leader in our industry, I recognise our responsibility to address the challenges and opportunities of the 21st Century. As a business, we believe that sustainability is not only a moral duty but also a strategic imperative and a competitive advantage. That is why we have integrated sustainability into every aspect of our business, from our vision and values to our innovation and investment, to our governance and performance.

Everyone at Vita is proud of what we have accomplished, but we are not complacent. We know that there is still much work to be done and that the challenges we face are complex and dynamic. We are committed to continuous improvement and innovation, and to being transparent and accountable for our actions and impacts.

Thank you for your continued trust and support.

Our Approach to Sustainability

Sustainable Innovation
For us, flexible polyurethane foam is a powerful ally in our journey toward sustainability. We have reimagined foam’s life cycle, transforming waste into valuable resources. Through the integration of environmentally preferred materials, we are redefining foam’s ability to enable the circular economy supported by the scientific principles of life cycle analysis.

Driving Transparency.
Vita operates four advanced innovation centres, which are instrumental in our ongoing efforts to enhance our technical proficiency and create foam solutions with improved sustainability. We’ve developed a proprietary Life Cycle Analysis model to quantify our environmental footprint. This model uses externally verified data to foster transparency and support more data-driven decisions regarding materials.

UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The SDGs serve as a guide to meaningful development. They offer a structure that facilitates measurable advancements. In 2020, we identified how we could contribute to the SDGs and have since been tracking our performance against the most relevant SDGs for our operations. Our company’s mission and values, along with our offerings, are in harmony with the objectives of these goals. We leverage our innovative capabilities to expedite the journey towards making a tangible difference.

The Life Cycle of Vita products

We understand that all products and services have an impact on the planet. At Vita, we are determined to fully evaluate that impact and explore ways to continue to reduce it. We believe that transparency on key measures such as GHGs, water use, and ozone depletion can be a driver for change and can inform our purchasing decisions in the future. Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) is a normalised and scientific method which validates how sustainable a product or process is.

Our Sustainability Principles

At Vita, our purpose is to create comfort, deliver performance and enhance everyday life. To achieve this, we push the boundaries of science and innovation to embrace and introduce environmentally preferred materials and circular processes into our manufacturing. Our purpose is bought to life by four core sustainability principles:

Research and Development

Innovation Team at The Vita Group

Flexible PU foam is the material of choice for so many applications and has the ability to become an enabler to drive towards net zero. It’s lightweight, cost-effective and scalable against competing technologies. Our expanded R&D capabilities have enabled us to tune the chemistry and cell structure for different applications, making it one of the most versatile advanced materials around.

It’s also long-lasting and more durable than many of the competing materials and best of all at the end of life it can now be recycled into materials to make new products. As an industry, this fact is something we must keep communicating by utilising science-based data.
